Matt Ratcliffe is a well connected musician with links to the midlands and national jazz scenes. Working with many of the best players in today’s contemporary jazz scene, Matt has forged his own unique and individual voice on the piano. Matt’s influence’s range from early jazz to bebop and beyond. Since studying I’ve been honoured to have with shared the stage with many of the U.K.’s best jazz musicians and have played some at of the countries well established jazz clubs, festivals, concerts and studios. Places I’ve played include the 606 Club, Matt and Phred’s, Mostly Jazz Festival Birmingham, Manchester Jazz Festival and Cheltenham Jazz Festival, the Peer Hat, Birmingham Jazzlines, Jazz steps Nottingham, Derby Jazz and many others.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

The vibe, mood and energy that I bring to the event, I have been playing for over 20 years and can read a room well, I love to add the right ambience for the setting through music.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I've played at 606 Jazz Club Chelsea, Peggy's Skylight Club Nottingham, Y Theatre Leicester, Mosely Jazz Festival Birmingham, Symphony Hall Commuter Jazz Birmingham, Manchester Jazz Festival, Derby Proms in The Park Matt and Phred's Manchester, Boisedale Club London and many more

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Bill Evans, Nat King Cole, Oscar Peterson, Frank Sinatra, Kieth Jarrett.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I recently played Derby Proms in the Park to over 15,000 people as part of a program with Derby Sinfonia. I also appeared on the Hotel Inspector playing in my jazz trio.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I am happy to remain flexible and ensure the event runs smoothly, if event timings change in the run up to the date please let me know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

I have an iPod with lots of lovely jazz and background vibes if needed.

How much time do you need to set up?

15-30 mins depending on the event, for a bigger band , trio or quartet, 30- 45mins.

If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?

Absolutely, as long as it is in tune and in good working order.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

I have a huge selection of jazz and pop, if you want something specific I'd be happy to chat through what you want for the occasion.

Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?

Yes I have a lovely Nord Piano keyboard.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

I'd be happy to discuss this, learning specific songs isn't a problem but I may need to make a small charge to cover my time.
