singer (Soprano)
Cambridge; London

Hannah King is a London-based soprano with particular interest in 20th century music, lieder performance and childrens' music education. She is currently a Fellow of the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and performs as a consort and solo singer across the UK. She is an alumna of the prestigious Chetham's School of Music, where she studied as an oboist and singer, before gaining a place to read for a BA in Music at Trinity College, Cambridge, where she also held choral and instrumental scholarships. During her time at Cambridge, Hannah's focus moved towards her vocal studies. In her final year of undergraduacy, she was a scholar on the Pembroke Lieder Scheme, and was the winner of the Lady Frances Song Competition. She also played 'Emmie' in a production of Britten's 'Albert Herring'. She has appeared with the Choir of St John’s College as soprano soloist for their cantata evensongs. She is currently taught by Ann de Renais and has taken part in masterclasses with Roderick Williams and Sarah Connolly. As a member of Trinity College Choir Hannah has toured the U.S.A, Canada, and Germany, with a tour to Australia and Hong Kong later this year. She has recorded several CDs with the choir, appearing as a soloist on several tracks of 'Northern Lights', a CD of choral music by Latvian composer Eriks Esenvalds. As a member of The Facade Ensemble, she has explored several contemporary works including 'The Man who Mistook his Wife for a Hat', in which she played the eponymous wife. Outreach is a matter close to Hannah's heart and she has participated in events such as The Commonwealth Resounds and the Cambridge Festival of Ideas. She balanced her final year of University with volunteering in a local primary school, introducing reception-aged students to classical music and demonstrating a new instrument every week. Whilst at Chethams, Hannah was taught oboe by Stephane Rancourt and won several awards and competitions for her playing, including a Future Talent Gold Award, Regional 1st place and National 2nd place in the Lions International Music Competition and a runner-up prize in the Chethams Concerto Competition. She has performed as an oboe soloist in the Bridgewater Hall and at the Ryedale Festival, and has made concerto appearances with the Chester Philharmonic Orchestra and Trinity College Chamber Orchestra. As a Cambridge student she was principle oboe of the University Chamber Orchestra and held an Instrumental Award Scholarship for chamber music, playing in a wind quintet and an oboe quartet. Her quartet, 'Pirazzi', performed Mozart and Britten's oboe quartets in venues across Cambridge, including the historic Fitzwilliam Museum.
