singer (Baritone)
Peterborough

Robert Haylett obtained an undergraduate music degree from Girton College, Cambridge, in 2014. During his study period he sang the roles of the Traveller in Britten’s Curlew River and created the role of Israelite Father in Rhiannon Randle’s Temptations. Frequently working as a soloist, he performed numerous Bach cantatas, early and Renaissance works with His Majesty’s Sagbutts and Cornetts, liturgical solos including Fauré and Duruflé requiems, and songs by Beethoven, Eisler and Britten, amongst others. Robert is currently a lay clerk at Peterborough Cathedral, and performs and teaches singing across the country. Recent work includes a European tour of Bach’s St John Passion with Musica Saeculorum and Phillip von Steinaecker, and a recording of new choral works in Finedon. A devotee of modern and contemporary music, Robert has created the roles of Dudley Ward and Frederick Kelly in David Earl’s Strange Ghost, given the world premiere of Rhiannon Randle’s Kalthertzige as baritone soloist, performed as a soloist in Louis D'Heudieres' 'various interpretations of utopian music' and the UK premiere of Jeremy Thurlow’s Over the Frost as a soloist and consort singer, and performed the role of Doctor P in Michael Nyman’s The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat. Robert has performed as a soloist and choral singer across the UK, and in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Israel/Palestine, Poland, Hong Kong, several locations in the USA, and Canada. He has also featured on broadcasts from the BBC, France Classique and RTHK (Hong Kong). Future engagements include recitals of Gurney and Barber, an opera fundraiser event, continued work with Peterborough Cathedral, and performances of Mozart's 'Don Giovanni', dates TBC.
