About Sinead

Sinéad is a lyric soprano from Belfast who is currently studying with Tim Evans-Jones and Caroline Dowdle at the RCM in London.

Sinéad recently attained a First Class BMus(Hons) from the Royal College of Music in London, where she studies with Tim Evans-Jones and Caroline Dowdle. She is supported by a full-fee scholarship, the David Ross Foundation, the Henry Wood Trust and the Josephine Baker Trust on the Masters Programme. She is also a Young Musician’s Platform Award holder for 2015/16 in collaboration with BBC NI and the NI Arts Council. Sinéad is NI Opera’s ‘Voice of 2013’ having won the main prize and the audience prize at the Festival of Voice last year. Also a keen advocate of Song repertoire, she is the 2013 winner of the Courtney Kenny English Song Award and attained 2nd place in the RCM’s Joan Chisell Schumann Competition for 2014. She was also featured as a Young Artist in the 2014 London Song Festival, singing Schumann, Strauss and Joseph Marx. Recently Sinéad made her professional operatic debut starring in NI Opera’s critically acclaimed touring production of The Magic Flute as ‘First Lady’ and has also made solo debuts at Royal Albert Hall, Cadogan Hall and Wigmore Hall. She has given recitals in London, Cambrige, York, Armagh, Dublin and her hometown of Belfast to warm critical reception. On the stage, Sinéad has portrayed 'Melisande' (Pelleas et Melisande, cover ETO), 'Governess' (Turn of the Screw, cover Nevill Holt), ‘Theodora’ (Theodora), ‘Papagena’ (Die Zauberflöte), ‘Dalila/Israelite Woman’ (Samson), ‘Catherine’ (La Jolie Fille du Perth), ‘Fiordiligi’ (Cosi fan Tutte), 'Zerlina' (Don Giovanni), Soeur Constance (Dialogue des Carmelites) and ‘Nerone’ (L’incoronazione di Poppea), and has participated in masterclasses with Sarah Connolly, Dame Ann Murray, Susan Bullock, Rebecca Evans and Patricia MacMahon. On the concert platform Sinéad has performed a wide range of oratorio with groups including the London Mozart Players, Surrey ProMusica, the Ulster Orchestra and the Irish Baroque Orchestra. Her concert repertory includes solos in Handel’s Messiah, Theodora, Acis & Galatea, Samson, and Dixit Dominus, Faure, Mozart and Brahams Requiem, Bach Magnificat, Haydn’s Creation and Nelson Mass, Schubert’s Mass in G, Vivaldi’s Gloria, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Pergolesi Stabat Mater and new commissions including Ian Schofield’s Stabat Mater, Geoff Cummings-Knight The Nightingale and the world premiere of the role of 'Persephone' in John Barber’s Seven Seeds at the Royal Albert Hall. Sinéad is a keen choral singer, and to that end has sung with ensembles including Sestina, Mousai and Reverie Choir. She is an ex-choral scholar at All Saints Fulham and was a member of Genesis Sixteen with Harry Christophers and Eamonn Dougan in 2012/13. Upcoming engagements include a recital of Debussy at the Oxford Lieder Festival, a tour of concerts with the Ulster Orchestra in December, the world premiere of Ian Schofield’s Stabat Mater under Jonathan Willcocks and a Mozart Requiem with the London Mozart Players.
