She has had various masterclasses with flautists of international renown, such as Robert Winn, Katherine Bryan and Anna Noakes. Laura is also a very keen chamber musician and is currently working on a duo project Duo Aulos with fellow Maltese flautist, Clara Galea. Laura had her soloist debut at the age of 19 with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, performing Chaminade’s Concertino in D Major. She also performed Vivaldi’s Concerto in C Major for Piccolo in November 2014 and Doppler’s Rigoletto-Fantasie as part of Duo Aulos in March 2015 with the Napier Chamber Orchestra. Laura has won competitions such as the Woodwind Soloist Prize at the Edinburgh Competition Festival (2015) and the Young Musician Award in Malta for Under 17’s (2008). As a duo capacity, Duo Aulos have also been awarded prizes for the Woodwind Duo and the Open Duo Categories in the Edinburgh Competition Festival. Having graduated with a First Class Honours Bachelor of Music degree from Edinburgh Napier University where she studied with Andrea Kuypers, Laura is currently reading for an MMus degree at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance with Anna Noakes. Laura’s studies have been made possible thanks to the generous support of Janatha Stubbs, Ian Tomlin Malta Music Trust, Malta Arts Scholarships Scheme and Malta Arts Fund.

Facing a full orchestra is daunting in itself; facing it with such a delicate instrument as the flute requires extraordinary courage. Laura Cioffi does not seem to have had any such issues ... (she) managed to transmit a powerful performance.

Laura’s extended technique skills are superb and is literally ON FIRE when asked to play contemporary and avant garde repertoire. I recommend her to you most highly, a highly intelligent and most musical flautist!!
