Pianist

Jo Yee is a British pianist and music educator based in vibrant Manchester, where she enjoys a varied career of performance, piano teaching and musical outreach. Jo began playing the piano at the age of 6, later attending Sheffield Music Academy where she studied under the tutelage of Valentina Kalashnik. During this time, Jo was awarded the Winifred Liverside Prize and achieved DipABRSM in piano performance, as well holding the position of senior organ scholar at St Marks, Broomhill. Jo then went on to read Music at the University of Cambridge, where she was awarded the Charles Larkum Prize (2011 and 2013) and took lessons with Prof. Niel Immelman at the Royal College of Music. Since moving to Manchester, after graduating from Cambridge in 2014, Jo went onto undertake an MMus in Solo Piano Performance at RNCM which she graduated from in 2016. A large portion of Jo's time is also taken up with private piano teaching, where she works with a studio of up to 20 pupils, as well as working as Director of the Olympias Music Foundation, a non-profit charitable organisation which aims to increase access to music and music education in deprived areas of Manchester. Solo performances include Mozart Piano Concerto in G major, K453 with the Rococo Chamber Orchestra in May 2012 (which she also co-conducted with the cellist, Joe Davies), and recitals in St Katherine’s Church and Zakopane in Krakow, Poland. Jo has also performed extensively in Cambridge (including solo recitals in West Road Concert Hall and Sidney Sussex, Jesus, Clare, Robinson, Newnham and Trinity college chapels, together with the neighbouring Ely Cathedral) as well as in her hometown of Sheffield (The Crucible; Sheffield University). Jo has participated in masterclasses with many distinguished artists such as Leslie Howard, Einar Steen-Nøkleberg, Kathy Stott, Nelita True, Phillipe Cassard, Tim Horton, Yolande Wrigley, Havilland Wilshire and Ekaterina Murina. Jo is also a keen chamber musician and relishes the opportunity to collaborate with other musicians, such as the Robertson Ensemble (with whom she participated in a concert tour of Poland in 2012), as an accompanist at a masterclass at Clare College, Cambridge with the tenor, Roderick Williams, in March 2013, and later this year, in a vibraphone and percussion ensemble as part of the RNCM Percussion Festival. Jo is currently undertaking an Advanced PGDip in Piano Performance at RNCM with Richard Ormod supported by a scholarship, as well as continuing her work with the Olympias Music Foundation.
