What does a DJ do?
A DJ, short for disc jockey, is a musician responsible for selecting and playing recorded music for audiences. Our DJs will first discuss with you your music preferences, the theme of the event and the demographics of your guest list so they can get an understanding of the type of music that will work best for your event. Many of our DJs offer MC services where they handle announcements and introduce special moments (like the first dance at a wedding). Is it rude to ask DJ for a song request?
Not at all! Unlike live musicians, who have to learn music before performing it, your DJ may play almost any song you request. However, we recommend sending your DJ a list of songs you'd want them to include in their set list before the event, as some DJs may be unable to find lesser-known tracks on the night.
Do DJs need insurance to play?
Yes, many professional DJs in the UK choose to have insurance coverage. While it is not a legal requirement, venues and event organisers often require DJs to have PLI (Public Liability Insurance). This insurance protects DJs from potential legal and financial liabilities if a third party (such as a guest or venue staff) is injured or their property is damaged during the performance. Having insurance provides peace of mind and demonstrates professionalism, especially when performing at events and venues that prioritise safety and security for all parties involved. What do I need to ask a DJ before hiring?

Does a DJ provide all their own equipment?
DJs typically have their own decks, a high-quality PA system, microphones, and disco lighting. The quality of their equipment has a huge impact on the quality of the sound and experience they create—expensive DJs frequently have superior equipment, with this investment in quality and experience reflected in their price. Always ask the DJ if they require any additional equipment for their performance, as your venue may be able to supply additional sound and lighting to improve the performance.

How far in advance should I book?
We encourage booking a DJ as soon as possible. A talented DJ can be sometimes scheduled months (or even years!) in advance for peak periods like Christmas and the summer wedding season. What is a mobile disco?
A mobile disco is a DJ who tours with a portable sound system allowing the DJ to travel around and perform in spaces which might not fit or have the facilities for a traditional stage. The beauty of mobile discos is that, unlike a traditional nightclub or venue, a mobile disco can be set up anywhere, perfect for smaller or outdoor venues.

Whether you tip a DJ you hire is completely up to you. If you feel your DJ has gone above and beyond to keep your guests entertained, you may want to tip them to show appreciation. However, ultimately, it is a personal choice and there is no expectation to.
