Charlotte Heslop is a young mezzo-soprano from Spennymoor in County Durham. A recipient of a scholarship from the RCS trust, she is currently in her second year studying on the BMus course at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland under the tutelage of Kathleen McKellar Ferguson. She has already won several awards during her time at the conservatoire, including the 2015 Kathleen Ferrier Society Bursary for Young Singers Audience Prize, the Winnie Busfield Singing Award, and a commendation in the 2015 Jean Highgate Scholarship for Singing competition. Before embarking on her studies at RCS she studied with Samling Artist Miranda Wright and was a Samling Academy Participant in 2012 and 2013, taking part in masterclasses with Patricia MacMahon, Paul Farrington, and Caroline Dowdle to name but a few.
She is now a member of Les Sirenes female chamber choir at the RCS (winner of BBC choir of the year 2012) and also sings with the Rodolfus Choir (Eton Choral Course Alumni) directed by Ralph Allwood. She has taken part in several Gabrieli Young Singers Scheme projects under the baton of Paul McCreesh, including a performance of Elijah at the BBC Proms and an award winning recording of Britten's War Requiem. Charlotte was a teacher at Durham Chorister School and now enjoys teaching privately when her full time studies permit.
Opera roles to date include La Libellule (L'enfant et les sortilèges) and Florence Pike (Albert Herring) with Samling Academy Opera; Second Witch (Dido and Aeneas) with the Miranda Wright Singers; Mrs Noye (Noye's Fludde) with the Durham Singers; and Miss Baggott (The Little Sweep) with Durham Chorister School.
