William Cheung

I have been performing professionally for many years, having played at various venues across the West Midlands including Aston Parish Church, Hogarth's Hotel & Restaurant and Hilton Hotels. As well as being classically trained I also play pop & rock music, most of which I arrange myself by ear. My performances include weddings, corporate events and concerts. My favourite performances have been Shostakovich's "Piano Concerto No.2 in F" with the University of Manchester Choir and Orchestra Society, Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition" at St. Werburgh's Church, Manchester and Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite" at St Hilda's Church, Warley Woods. My passion for conducting began from a young age, and my first formal lessons began at Chetham's School of Music. During my years in higher education I founded, managed and conducted my own orchestra, which ran successful concerts every semester for 3 years. These themed concerts included Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite Op.71a" and Verdi's "La Forza del Destino Overture". In addition in my final concert with the University of Manchester's Choir And Orchestra Society I directed the orchestra with Howard Shore's "Lord of the Rings Suite - The Fellowship of the Ring" in summer 2011. During my studying years I also led two choral groups, University of Manchester's Harmony Gospel Choir and co-leading the Burlington Singers. In 2012 I conducted an arrangment of Bizet's "Overture to Carmen" with the Old Swinford Hospital Symphony Orchestra, and in the following academic year I taught conducting workshops for students at Old Swinford Hospital School. Before departing, I rehearsed and conducted the Old Swinford Hospital Chamber Orchestra on their music tour, performing at primary schools and churches local to Stourbridge. Repertoire included Mozart's "Symphony No.41 - Jupiter", Haydn's "Piano Concerto in D" and Vivaldi's "Concerto for 2 Cellos in G minor". Since joining Music To You Ltd. I have also been music director for primary school productions including "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" , "The Jungle Book" and "Alice in Wonderland". Recently I conducted the Bournville String Orchestra in their annual end-of-summer concert, who performed Vivaldi's "Concerto for Two Cellos in G minor" and Janacek's "Idyll Suite for Strings".
