Victoria Walker has performed as a soloist in concerto and recital performances in the UK, Australia, France and Trinidad, and recorded and premiered the cello concerto Roundelay by Stephen Dodgson, which was commissioned by the National Youth Guitar Ensemble. Her debut solo album To The Trains, with pianist Daniel Hill, featuring works by Debussy, Martinu and Glazunov was released in 2012. Victoria recently performed solo cello on Love Is Where You Are for Peter Howarth’s 2014 album, Evermore – Songs of Love and Inspiration, and recently collaborated with Joe Carabine for his single When You Were Mine. She also recorded Radiation and When Is It Gonna Rain, new works for solo cello by composer Montgomery Sadler. Victoria’s further recording experience encompasses albums by Lisa Stansfield and Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, and sessions for London Telefilmonic Orchestra, Urban Soul Orchestra, Nitin Sawhney and Ellie Lawson. Victoria has performed as Principal ‘Cello with the English Sinfonia (Principal Trial), Guildford Philharmonic Orchestra, London Soloist Chamber Orchestra, Co-Opera Ireland and Sinfonia ViVa. Further orchestral work includes performances with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, English National Ballet and Rambert Dance Company, with West End appearances including Guys and Dolls, The Sound of Music, Mahabharata and the premiere of Berlin. Alongside her solo and orchestral playing, concerts include performances with Nitin Sawhney, Scott Walker, Damon Albarn, Anoushka Shankar, Jarvis Cocker, Natacha Atlas, Natty, Reena Bhardwaj, Rox, Fink, Imogen Heap and Akram Khan. Victoria studied at the RNCM with Hannah Roberts and RCM with Steven Doane and Margaret Moncrieff. Victoria is also passionate educator and has been teaching the cello for over 15 years. She has held numerous teaching posts throughout the UK and was invited to join the University of the West Indies, as a guest lecturer and Instructor of Music. Amongst other numerous successes, her student Wasia Ward was recently awarded a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA. Victoria currently teaches for Southwark Music Service, Forest School London and Croydon High School, the former school of cellist Jacqueline Du Pre, as well as running her own busy studio at her home in South East London. Victoria has given outreach workshops in the UK with the Anghiari Quartet and Live Action Opera and most recently numerous education workshops with the Savannah Quartet in primary, secondary and special needs schools across Trinidad and Tobago.
