About Simone

VERSATILE AND ECLECTIC VIOLINIST | PERFORMS PRIMARILY ON PERIOD INSTRUMENTS | misterbarocker
Baroque Violinist
Cardiff

Born in Pescara (Italy), Simone Pirri, class of 1994, began his music studies in modern violin at the early age of three and subsequently entered the Conservatoire “Luisa d’Annunzio” of Pescara, where he graduated with honours in June 2012 after a 10-years bachelor degree course. Driven by his deep passion towards the repertoire of Baroque and Classical eras and the relative approach to the historically informed performance practice, he relocated to London and entered the Royal Academy of Music where he studied period violins with Nicolette Moonen and Simon Standage. In 2014 he gave life to his early music ensemble ‘Rinnovatori’ along with other 3 colleagues from the same Academy. The group won the Nancy Nuttall Early Music Prize in May 2014 and have been invited to perform at the fringe of the world’s leading early music festivals – Musica Antiqua Bruges & Festival Oude Muziek Utrecht - including a sell-out concert at the latter. In May 2015 his ensemble won the Nancy Nuttall Early Music Prize for the second year in a row, while in June Simone has taken part in the touring partnership-project between the Royal Academy of Music (London) and the Juilliard School (New York City) performing the instrumental and vocal music of JS Bach in Boston, New York City, Leipzig and London next to world class personalities like Masaaki Suzuki and Rachel Podger. In 2016 Simone has joined three period orchestras: Theresia Youth Orchestra - Talenti Vulcanici Youth Ensemble - Dutch Baroque Orchestra. In July 2016, he has successfully obtained his Master of Arts degree with Distinction from the prestigious London institution; thanks to the generous contribution given by the Countess of Munster Music Trust, he is now pursuing a further Postgraduate Diploma course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff in the class of Rachel Podger, his baroque idol. A "less serious" Simone loves Pop, Dance and Electronic music too. He used to improvise on dance/electro tracks in some Italian clubs with his violin. He often sits at a keyboard and arranges famous mainstream tunes. He worked with singer-songwriter Hannah Scott, Mizar Duo and often collaborates with Italian singer-songwriter Marlò. Simone enjoys writing, singing and playing his own songs as well as crafting them on his laptop.
