Ruth grew up in the Highlands, and has had a strong interest in traditional music since a young age. She began singing and playing the piano and fiddle when she was 7 years old, but it was when she was first introduced to the Scottish harp at the age of 12 that Ruth discovered where her true passion and talent lay. After school, Ruth moved to Glasgow where she went to university and gained a BA (Hons) European Business degree. Following periods of study and work in France and Japan, she settled in Glasgow and decided to embark on a new adventure and pursue her career in music. In 2013 she gained a Diploma in Music Education from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and continued her studies there to be awarded a BA Honours (First Class) Scottish Music. Over the years, Ruth has performed at lots of gigs, music festivals, concerts, weddings and functions across Scotland, and continues to be in demand as a solo harpist and singer. Ruth is experienced in arranging different styles of music for the clarsach, ranging from traditional tunes to contemporary songs. She also plays the Highland bagpipes, and has a particular interest in adapting and arranging bagpipe tunes for the harp. As well as performing, Ruth also loves teaching. She teaches one-to-one and group lessons, and is experienced in leading music workshops in nurseries and schools.
