Katie is currently studying historical performance at the Royal Academy of Music, where she received the San Martino Scholarship. She previously studied music at Newnham College, Cambridge, and then at the RNCM, passing her Master's in oboe performance with distinction and receiving the Winfield-Graham Prize for solo wind performance. Concert highlights at the RNCM included playing principal oboe for Mahler 9 under Jac van Steen, and cor anglais for the Pines and Fountains of Rome under Sir Mark Elder. At Cambridge, she held the position of principal oboe in CUMS Symphony Orchestra and held a University Instrumental Award in her first two years, and toured in 2014 with the Symphony Orchestra and with Cambridge University Chamber Orchestra. Prior to Cambridge, she was principal oboe with the City of Leeds Youth Orchestra until 2011, with whom she performed Vaughan Williams' Oboe Concerto in the Leeds International Concert Season. She loves chamber music, playing viola as well as oboe in different ensembles.
Originally from York, she now lives back in Cambridge and studies the baroque oboe with Katharina Spreckelsen.
She currently plays with several period instrument ensembles, including Eboracum Baroque, Endelienta Baroque and the Academy of Ancient Music. 2018 highlights included performances of several Bach cantatas including BWV 82 ('Ich habe genug'), Bach's Concerto for Violin and Oboe and Albinoni's Oboe Concerto in D minor Op. 9 no. 2.
