Joe is a singer, musician, and actor from rural Devon. Joseph had an interest in and talent for music from an early age, singing in the local church choir later leading to a choristership at Exeter Cathedral from the age of 11. As a treble Joe has had opportunities to sing some of the greatest choral music around, notable highlights include singing the treble solo in Allegri’s Miserere, mei Deus. After leaving the cathedral Joe continued to sing however a re-kindled enjoyment for music came out of a head injury sustained in 2010. Post-trauma, Joe found great enjoyment and relief in music and theatre with opportunities to take part in many different productions on and off the stage. In 2012 he was awarded the Mike Ball Shield from the Royal School of Church Music for an outstanding contribution to church music through work on music theory and teaching singing to choristers locally. Under the guidance of singing tutor Cathrine Davies, Joe completed ABRSM Grade 8 and an LCM Diploma in Singing Performance and was greatly encouraged to join The National Youth Choir of Great Britain (NYCGB), in 2012. This has subsequently lead to opportunities including BBC Radio and Television broadcasts, recordings with notable producers such as Audio Network, Delphian Records, and Signum Records. A chance to sing the most wonderful choral music in some of the finest venues on the classical music scene in the UK and overseas, which have included Monteverdi’s Vespers at The Royal Albert Hall, Beethoven 9 at The Royal Festival Hall with London’s Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Christoph von Dohnányi. Additionally; The Barbican Centre, Snape Maltings, Sage Gateshead, St Georges Cape Town, Leeds Town Hall and St Martins in the Fields. Joe has sung as part of the Trinity Laban Old Royal Navel College Chapel Choir and the Rudolfus Choir under Ralph Allwood, and with Deci Voices. In December Joe performed alongside Kyle Minogue at her Christmas concert at the Royal Albert Hall for Sky Arts, and more recently in the Milton Court Theatre as part of ‘An Evening on Broadway’, a concert performance in aid of the charity Acting for Others. Now in London, Joe is studying as a Baritone at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama under the tutorage of David Pollard. In addition to singing, Joe also enjoys Composition, working as a Musical Director/Singing Tutor, and also playing the French Horn. Joe has directed several musical theatre showcase productions whilst training, additionally arranging and writing new pieces for the theatre. Joe’s unique style and approach has been particularly successful with new projects currently in the development process. Joe has worked as the Assistant Musical Director on a production of Lionel Bart's Oliver!, and previously; school edition Les Miserables. He has also directed Ivybridge's Musical Theatre Society for the past few years. Joe has found an interest and excitment from the theatre and in addition to directing performences Joe has played a number of roles whilst training which have included a selection of titles in variety performences and dance shows whilst also additionally playing Feuily, The Bishop of Dinge, (Marius and Valjean cover), in Les Miserables School Edition (2013), and Bert Healy in Annie (2012). Joe is working hard to stregnthen his adaptability and capability in different arts disiplins, recently completling a Trinity College Gold Arts Award to diversify his performance opportunities.
