Jack Greed, 20 years old, is a violinist studying at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Born in Leeds, he hails from a musical family and started learning the violin at the age of 4. His main source of musical education as a child came from Yorkshire Young Musicians - a Centre for Advanced Training in music - where he studied with Claire Osborne. Jack was leader of the City of Leeds Youth Orchestra for two years and his time with the orchestra culminated with a performance of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3. He was also a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain for 3 years, attaining the position of no. 3 first violin. In 2014, Jack was awarded a place on the London Symphony Orchestra Academy, a course that saw him perform in masterclasses and concerts alongside principal string players of the LSO. He has also played in masterclasses with Nicola Benedetti and Bartosz Woroch. Jack currently studies with Joshua Fisher, and appears frequently with the Royal Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra, in which he has previously sat as co-leader and principal second violin. His first year of study at the Academy also saw him appointed leader of the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra - following in the footsteps of his teacher. Jack made his professional debut with the Orchestra of Opera North at the age of 19. In addition to his orchestral ventures, Jack is very passionate about chamber music and plays in the Kirkman Quartet - a recently formed string quartet tutored by Levon Chilingirian - founder of the famous Chilingirian Quartet. The Kirkman Quartet were recently awarded a place on the Davey Poznanski String Quartet Scheme - an intense training programme with just 3 coveted places available each year - gaining praise for their “extremely well resourced and stylish playing”. Jack hopes to pursue a career in performing music, his main source of inspiration being his parents and brothers, all of whom work in the music profession.
